Over the last ten years, I have edited more than 20 theses and dissertations as well as countless personal statements. This is one of my favorite services, because I love learning about your field and helping make sure you are presenting yourself or your research in the brightest, clearest light.
I don’t offer editing for high school or undergraduate papers or for applications to undergraduate programs. My academic editing services begin at the graduate level.

ThesEs and dissertations
You’ve been through years of study or training and poured mountains of all-nighters into a paper that’s basically a whole book. Of course you want to present that manuscript at its very best. But theses and dissertations, however insightful and well-researched, are notorious for being simply unreadable. Expertise in your field does not necessarily mean expertise in writing.
A thorough line edit can lift your paper from acceptable to a genuine pleasure to read, and as a layperson in your field, I can easily highlight anything unclear or underdeveloped in a structural edit. And even if you are a confident writer and don’t feel the need for a copyedit, every paper benefits from a detailed proofread before submission.
I’ve edited theses and dissertations in fields ranging from music history to cybersecurity, and my clients regularly refer me to their classmates (like Major Snow, whose testimonial you see above – I went on to edit seven more theses that year thanks to her referrals).
These are jobs I particularly enjoy, because I get to learn about subject matter that is new to me.
I proofread and edit theses and dissertations at my usual editing rates, which you can find at the bottom of this page.

Personal statements
A personal statement for a graduate or post-graduate application isn’t just an essay. It’s a story, and it needs to be as compelling as any work of fiction – while remaining truthful and hitting all the points in the prompt. Most of my personal statement clients opt for a structural edit, a review not just of language but of content and organization of thought. That way I can help them assemble their personal history into a narrative that will catch the eye of an admissions board and convince them that my client is the perfect fit for their program.
I won’t write your personal statement or any sections of it for you, but I can help you make it sing and ensure that each admissions board believes their school is your top choice.

If your application involves more than one statement, for example a personal statement and a diversity statement, I will discount the additional statements by $10–15 depending on the extent of the revisions needed. |
